Literature Arts for Middle Schoolers

In this class, we will take an in-depth look into the beloved story of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, “The Hobbit.” Can even the smallest of creatures go up against the likes of elves, goblins, dragons, and kings, and affect or alter the direction of an entire world?  This classic novel follows the adventures of the diminutive hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, as he is swept up in an adventure to save Middle Earth from destruction.   Students will use this fantastical, action-packed story to learn about the author and the unique characters he created, study new vocabulary, sentence construction and grammar, combined with literary terms and techniques.  This class encourages critical and creative thinking, while providing challenging and engaging projects to support different learning styles.  All those, young or old, who enjoy a suspense filled adventure will want to go along for the ride of this masterfully told tale of “The Hobbit.”
REQUIREMENT: Please bring a copy of the book (“The Hobbit” by J.R.R Tolkien) and a one-subject spiral notebook to the first class.
