Multicultural Literature

Multiculturalism is the presence of, or support for the presence of, several distinct cultural or ethnic groups within a society. In this course, the students will read and discuss books written from the perspectives of characters with different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. The students will read aloud a chapter book together during class as well as choose one book from a given list to read on their own. The students will complete one book report to be presented by the end of the semester. Multicultural education is beneficial to students giving them the opportunity to examine their own social and cultural biases, break down those biases, and change their perspective within their own setting.
