Topics to be covered:
Session 1: Introduction to homeschooling – overview of homeschooling, legal requirements, benefits and challenges of homeschooling options.
Session 2: Charter schools- how to use them, what is and isn’t allowed, age cut-offs, funding, vendors etc.
Session 3: Setting up your homeschool – figuring out goals and vision of your homeschool, creating a conducive learning environment, choosing curriculum and resources, setting realistic, goals, and expectations & different homeschool philosophies & styles.
Session 4: Curriculum planning and instruction – understanding your child’s learning style, planning curriculum, effective teaching strategies.
Session 5: Time management and scheduling for busy homeschool moms – practical help maximizing your time
Session 6: Socialization and extracurricular activities – socialization during homeschooling, finding activities, and setting up visits to different places, child development, and what to expect at different ages
Session 7: Assessments and recordkeeping: how we do this differently as homeschoolers, what is required, how to address any learning challenges and when
Session 8: Overcoming challenges, and staying motivated – dealing with burnout and maintaining motivation, adapting to changes and challenges in homeschooling, building your support network, celebrating successes and milestones
After this there can be on-going monthly meetings with topics that you can suggest and a lot of workshopping and thinking through practical questions.
We also plan to have an optional fun in-person meetup at the end of the course to see each other in person.
Cost:
If registering for the full 8 session course – $149
If registering for individual sessions – $20/session
Limited to 10 families to ensure an intimate setting with enough time for questions & answers each session.
If, after the 1st session, you want to drop the course, you need to do so by emailing learnbeyondthebook@gmail.com and you will only be charged for the first session at $20, but if you do not cancel in writing, it will be assumed that you are staying for the full 8 session course. This does not apply if you signed up for individual sessions. Refunds deadline – 7 days in advance of session starting.
When paying on the registration link, you can change the gratuity to $0 or whatever you want to contribute to Omella. Omella, the registration software, has a default amount there, but you can change it.
