Learn Beyond The Book Academy PSP – Independent Study Department (for homeschoolers)

Many students take a-la-carte classes at Learn Beyond The Book for enrichment with their homeschool program. This is the primary way many families interact with our classes. In that situation, they can be enrolled in a homeschool charter school and pay for some classes with educational funds.

However, Learn Beyond the Book Academy was registered Fall of 2018 after several requests from many of our homeschool and hybrid school families who didn’t want to use a charter school or file their own Private School Affidavit (PSA).  It is our PSP (Private Satellite Program) or Private School option.  This is only available to those who do not belong to a homeschool charter school or another public or private school.

Our services for the PSP include the following:

Reporting requirements (TK-8th grades)

Parents need to hand in an attendance record at Learn Beyond The Book’s front desk or submit it electronically to elmarie@learnbeyondthebook.com at least once a year at the end of the school year. It could just be a calendar with the marked days of school for the year. We also request two samples per year of each subject (could be a screenshot of online courses or other non-traditional samples) of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English, plus any samples from other subjects that parents wish to keep in their student’s portfolio.  An outline of lesson plans/vision for the year is recommended to be submitted at the start of each school year (it does not have to be detailed).  It can also be done by semester.  At the end of each semester, a report card will be issued (if needed, upon request), based on the status of the student’s work according to parents and also from Learn Beyond The Book class teachers.

Graduation & Reporting Requirements (9-12th grades)

The minimum graduation requirements for Learn Beyond The Book Academy are the same as what is listed on the Department of Education website for a high school diploma, as well as recommended courses if students are applying to CSU or UC universities as freshman.  All the graduation requirements can be found at this link.

At the beginning of 9th grade, we will sit down and design a graduation plan for your student, which can still change, but just to help everyone stay on track to graduate on time with all their goals met.

For high school, we will need official transcripts if you would like courses from before or from community colleges or other outside entities to be added to the student’s transcript.

Samples will be accumulated into a portfolio.

If you’re looking for an individualized diploma for your high school student, you’ve come to the right place!  We can’t wait to meet you and your student if we don’t already know you!
