Lancaster Classes – Fall 2018

Yoga, Nature, and Community Relationships

This 3 hour unit-study class will include some yoga and stretching, nature walks, some Spanish, and a unit study set around community, working together, and helping our environment. We will follow students’ interests– beginning with open-ended materials and following more direction as community related interests arise. We will take on a project-based approach to learning activities that follow children’s interests, all while incorporating yoga (through the use of themes, yoga poses, games, group activities, music, books, art, imagination, and mindfulness), nature, recycling, and recyclable art.
Community is defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. My aim is to help children cultivate a better sense of that by guiding children to learn more about themselves through the world that surrounds them and how they interact with it. We will transform the traditional yoga practice into a creative, stimulating, and fun bonding experience that can begin to give children a better sense of self as individuals and as members of a community.
