I’m excited to announce a summer program for tween & teens and some fun social events that I will create on the Meetup group for you to RSVP in the next day or two, so please make sure to join the Meetup if you aren’t a member already. We found that the tweens and teens really want to see friends during the summer and wanted to create a platform for that. Each week the social events will tie in loosely with the topic of the week, but they can do one or the other or both.
Students can sign up for 1 week at a time or for all the weeks or any combination of weeks. The cost is $20/week payable to Learn Beyond The Book for the meeting times, facilitated by Mihal Levy, with different relevant topics to discuss (on Tuesdays and Wednesdays based on age) and the social events will vary in price and time, depending on the activity and will be listed on Meetup.
The older teen group (15-18yo.) will meet on Tuesdays at 4:30-6:30pm and the younger tween/teen group (11-14yo.) will meet on Wednesdays at 4:30-6:30pm (except the week of July 4th). They will have the same themes each week. Social events will mostly be Fridays and one Saturday.

Week 1: June 19 & 20 – Welcome to Summer (summer goals, play some games)
Week 2: June 26 & 27 – Vegas week (escapism and fun, difference between the 2, some card games)
Week 3: July 3 & 5 – Nerd week (discuss different kinds of people, accepting & appreciating others and their strenghts, weaknesses and differences)
Week 4: July 10, 11 – Mystery/Debates (gossip & friends and how to disagree & still resolve conflicts & teamwork, plus some debates)
Week 5: July 17, 18 – Halloween in the Summer (surviving a zombie apocalypse as a teen, dress up)
Week 6: July 24, 25 – Hollywood (body image issues, social media, pop culture issues, celebrity links)
Week 7: July 31, Aug.1 – Characters (super heroes and other characters they admire, their own talents)
Week 8: Aug.7, 8 – End of summer (goals for next school year, gratitude journal for summer)

All the Social Events will be on Meetup to RSVP for, but anything else, I need an email from you to let me know you’ll be there, so we know for sure we have enough people to make it happen. Mihal drives from the San Fernando Valley to get here, so I would hate for her to drive all the way and no-one shows up.
