Focusing on the two forces that influenced the course of history, this class will compare the power of written ideas against warfare.  As students study major characters and events that changed Western Civilization, from Constantine to World War II, they will constantly question whether words or weapons led to the success or demise of rulers and nations.

In addition to weekly readings and discussions, students will research additional details of the events studied in class, and formulate their own conclusions on the impacts of these developments upon modern events.
