Using the basics of traditional American quilting, students in this class will practice and refine skills such as designing, exact cutting, piecing, and quilting either pillows or a small lap quilt by hand. We will explore traditional quilt block designs, stories behind them, and become familiar with the earliest as well as modern techniques.
Sewing a quilt together by hand from small scraps of fabric using only a needle and thread is a very satisfying and empowering skill, and we may explore some machine techniques towards the end of the session.
Basic materials provided, and guidance will be given if students want to take on larger projects.
Ages 11+, adults welcome.
