This class is appropriate for readers who have mastered beginning alphabetic principles, consonant blends and digraphs, and are familiar with long vowel constructions. We will begin with a review of long vowels and move on to a systematic approach to spelling by analyzing multi-syllabic words from selected grade appropriate literature. There is a strong focus on phonics with sound by sound word segmentation and dictation and blending practice. Quality, engaging literature is read and discussed through vibrant class interaction for a deeper level of comprehension. Readers of varying abilities are also encouraged to attend as there will be an individualized approach to support a variety of learning levels.
