This fun class will employ the popular Minecraft game to teach students about the following in 4 week sections:
Farming: NO BOOK REQUIRED. Learn the basics of farming through Minecraft! We will be learning about different farm types, how to design farms and how to solve systems of equations to solve for production and quantity created/sold. Culminating project – create your farm in Minecraft and share your production and profit systems.
Ages 9 and up.
No prior knowledge needed. Ability to use the internet is required. Meets once a week for four weeks. Must bring Laptop or Tablet and Minecraft game to each class meeting.
Mineralogy and Petrology: NO BOOK REQUIRED. In this module, we will explore the world of Minecraft and discover all the resources available! Resources such as wood, minerals, ores and rocks will be researched and discussed. Culminating project – Chose a resource, find it in minecraft and share where it should be found in the real world and what it is used for! Collected resources and final projects will be used to create a decorative item for your Minecraft Home.
Needed for class: Basic understanding of the differences between rocks and other resources. Understand how to use search engines to research topics. Class will include a review/introduction to the differences between minerals, rocks and other resources.
Best suited for ages 8 and up. Ability to use the internet is required. Meets once a week for four weeks.
Must bring laptop or Tablet and Minecraft game to each class meeting.
Circuitry: BOOK REQUIRED. Learn about the basics of circuitry by using redstone! Culminating project – create a working or repeating circuit in game to share with the class. All participants will explain their project in a meaningful way.
Needed for class: Completion or near completion of Pre-Algebra OR demonstrated higher level understanding of cause-and-effect relationships.
Ages 10 and up.
Meets once a week for 4 weeks. Ability to use the internet is required. Must bring Laptop or Tablet and Minecraft game to each class meeting.
2D/3D Design: NO BOOK REQUIRED. Explore the process of taking a 2D design or logo and recreating it in 3D! Participants will learn logo design for beginners. Culminating project – draw a 2D design on paper, decide on materials and color schemes, apply transformations to then create it in 3D in Minecraft.
Needed for class: Basic understanding of 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional concepts.
Best suited for ages 8 and up or grade 3 and higher.
Meets once a week for four weeks. Ability to use the internet is required. Must bring Laptop or Tablet and Minecraft game to each class meeting.
