In Math and Logic Games, you will learn the math strategies behind some of the most popular games. Have you visited Marbles at the mall? Have you wanted to beat the Marbles’ sales people at their games??? This class is for you!!!
This class may be experienced by kids as a “fun” class, but it’s one that will benefit their mental and social development by helping them to develop:
• logical abilities
• math skills that support pre-algebra and algebra, including a deeper understanding of PEDMAS, prime factorization, positive and negative numbers, factors and multiples, and more
- critical thinking skills
• good sportsmanship, leadership, and communication skills
• creativity
• many other skills that can be gleaned from games
We are able to accommodate a range of ages and ability levels because the activities and games in this class are adaptable, but will be focused on Upper Elementary Math & Pre-Algebra concepts. It could be a really great class for reinforcement for those enrolled in a Pre-Algebra. We will divide into small groups, work as a large team, and sometimes work individually to develop mathematical reasoning and logic skills in a fun, supportive environment—with special emphasis on FUN!
We will include a mix of the following, focused on both math and logic:
Group activities: These games are not traditional board games, but are group games that are usually cooperative in nature, and designed to allow each student to work at their own level of challenge while encouraging classmates to work to their best level. These games will incorporate logical thinking skills, math facts (at all grade levels, depending on the students), and plenty of fun!
Structured games: These games will incorporate logic, critical thinking skills, and other mathematic thought processes. When appropriate, students will play as a class, or will break into smaller groups based on ability and interest, so that everyone is engaged and having a great time.
Ages: 11+yo.
