Introduction to Engineering

3 age groups:

This course will introduce student to the world of engineering. What engineers are, how they contribute to society, what types of engineering fields exist, what are their specialties and how one becomes an engineer. Class projects may include, popsicle truss-bridges & building simple electrical circuits. More emphasis to be placed on hands-on experience and a broad overview of the engineering world rather than theory and calculations. Students will obtain a basic overview of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering disciplines in this course.

What engineers are, how they contribute to society, what types of engineering fields exist, what are their specialties and how one becomes an engineer. Class projects may include, popsicle truss-bridges & building simple electrical circuits. More emphasis will be placed on guiding students to actually pursue engineering in higher education and how to prepare for it in high school and what to expect at the university level. More in-depth insight into actual engineering disciplines and sub-disciplines to give students a broad overview of what type of engineering they would be most interested in pursuing. Finally, basic problem solving and applied mathematics for introductory engineering problems such as beam & truss analysis, basic fluid flow, static equilibrium, basic electrical circuit analysis etc. Students will obtain an intermediate overview of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering disciplines in this course.

Ages: 12+yo. and Advanced Engineering for 14+yo.
