Hula Dancing & Hawaiian Culture

Students will learn the language of the dance through exposure to the Hawaiian language. Students have opportunities to learn how to use traditional implements, such as the ʻiliʻili (stones), ʻuliʻuli (feathered gourd rattle), ipu (percussion instrument made from gourds), and pūʻili (bamboo sticks)  as part of the dance.

The immersion into the customs and culture of the Hawaiian Islands through the music and dance is the background needed to express the beauty of hula.
