How do we write history?

Come learn about the king who hired a team of archaeologists to do research for him… in 600 BCE! This course explores the question: “how do we write history?”, “why do we write history” and “what even is history?” Together, we will read ancient texts and discuss them in class in order to uncover the answer to these questions, while slowly writing our own “history of history.” The course aims to highlight the biases and preconceptions scholars often bring to their work, historical or otherwise! Students will learn about interpreting sources, assessing ancient and modern biases, and the critical thinking skills needed to do this.
