History through Film will explore historical events through the eyes of some of the best directors in history. We will generally use a portion of a class period to contextualize the event itself, then will watch the film, and will use a portion of the third class period to analyze the event in terms of its significance and relevance to current events and in terms of the filmmaker’s lens.
In light of the current domestic situation, we will explore the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement…interspersed with some lighter themes!
This class will also serve as a preparatory course for Biological and Cultural Anthropology college courses in the Spring with the teacher through Ventura Community College (credits can be transferred to any community college).
Films will be at least PG-13, with the possibility of parentally-approved R, so not appropriate for students under the age of 14.
