We will delve head-first into the awesome world of 3D video games. Previous classes dealt with 2D “Arcade” style games, but in this class students will learn how to create 3D levels (or “maps” as it’s called in the industry) complete with lighting, models, and characters, as well as how to create a fully functioning game from start to finish. Students will learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling, and will become very proficient in creating textures, and “mapping” (creating level designs) in the Half Life 2 “Source” video game development engine.
Students who have already taken the class before will keep progressing on to more advanced levels of design.
Students have to provide their own laptop and buy the Half Life 2 game ($9.99). The game won’t ever be used in the class, but the models/objects in the game will be used with the source engine, since there are already developed models/objects in the engine.
