Ancient History through Readers’ Theater

“I came, I saw, I conquered.”

—Julius Caesar

Live your history! Using scripts based on actual events we will connect with the real human dramas that make history. We will personalize and relate to important past world events by stepping into the shoes of female pharaoh Hatshepsut, philosopher Socrates, military general Alexander the Great, mathematician and scientist Archimedes, conqueror Julius Caesar, scholar Hypatia and more! Additionally, students will work as a team to research their own ancient historical figures, and then create and perform their own scripts! Through the power of theatre, this class will allow students to dive deep into yesterday while cultivating the oral reading skills and creative expression they need to use today. There is no homework for this class. However, outside research for this class is always encouraged! Students need to bring an unlined journal and pencil to take notes. All other materials will be provided by the instructor.

GO DEEPER! Pair this class with Art, Science and Myths of Ancient Greece and Acting Shakespeare: Antony and Cleopatra!
