In this course, students will be introduced to the basics of archaeology and the specifics of Egyptian archaeology. The course will be a general survey of the archaeology of ancient Egypt from prehistoric times (~5000 BCE) through Ptolemaic times (~100 BCE). We will discuss topics such as mummification, the development of private/royal funeral monuments, private/royal houses, temples, figurines, and jewelry. Students will learn critical thinking skills, presenting skills, research skills, and gain a deep understanding of ancient Egyptian religion and mythology. Among the occasional creative or factual writing assignment, students will also present or create art pieces themed around the topic of each class.
