This course introduces students to the most powerful free 3D program available today: Blender! Students will learn the basics of Blender’s interface and tools, as well as aspects of 3D modeling, materials/texturing, sculpting, lighting, rendering, and simple rigging/animation through demos and personal projects. These skills can be applied to video game development, animation, 3D printing, and digital artmaking. This class will be beginner-friendly, so no previous 3D experience is required. Get ready to have fun, be creative, and make some cool stuff!
Before taking this class, students should
- Have intermediate+ computer literacy/skills (comfortable working with keyboard/mouse, knows how to navigate files/file explorer, knows how to copy and paste, etc.)
- Have access to a computer that is capable of handling Blender and can be used during class. Here is a list of hardware requirements/recommendations for optimal performance: https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/
- Have the latest version of Blender installed, which can be downloaded here: https://www.blender.org/download/ PLEASE try to use the newest version (3.0+), as some features will not be available in earlier builds. However, if this is not possible, you must at least have version 2.8, as earlier versions have a completely different interface and will be much harder to follow along with
- Ideally have a three-button mouse (one that has a mouse wheel), but this is not necessary
